A-Level / Adult Introductory Workshop

Passion in Practice - Workshop Nov 2010

Working with Iris Theatre's Artistic Director Dr. Daniel Winder and three actors your pupils will explore key scenes from any Shakespeare play of your choice.
(Additional learning resources are available for Romeo & Juliet)

After a general discussion about the plays themes we will use key scenes in performance to explore the characters and plot.

Your pupils will be able to interrogate the actors and work in an interactive way to uncover the motivations and thoughts behind key characters actions.

Using a key scene we will explore in an interactive way various questions of staging and contextualisation.

Through practical exploration we will look in detail at Shakespeare's language and his methods of construction; the rhythm, the antithesis, the oxymorons, the balancing of contrasting and complimentary adjectives around an 'and' structure, the internal self translations, the simultaneous use of 'high' and 'low' language.

If there are specific themes and scenes which are of interest for you and your pupils we can adjust the workshop to match those needs.

Please email schools@iristheatre.com to book.  Click here for our price list.
[All our actors are fully CRB checked.]

Additional Learning Resources

At present she moderates the LITB2 Shakespeare and Tragedy modules, and examines the LITBI Novel module. Click here to download example worksheet.

School Testimonial

"We were a group of about 50 and it was a beautiful, warm evening. I just wanted to say how very much we enjoyed it - I had a whole range of ages with me (from A-level to Year 7) and they all loved it. We thought it was both funny and tragic and the setting was so perfect.
Your production really inspired the children. We are involved in the Shakespeare schools festival so take a real interest in the creative performance of Shakespeare. "
