On 21st - 23rd September 2012 Iris Theatre will present:
'Opera Twelve' - A New Commission

Die Fledermaus 2011

Dido & Aeneas 2010
Die Fledermaus 2011
The Children's Opera 2009

Continuing Iris Theatre's drive to create and perform groundbreaking new work, this September sees the commissioning of a brand-new opera.

It will re-tell the myth of Hermaphroditus and explore the themes surrounding the tale. This chamber opera will bring together a team of established and emerging creatives to write an opera which it is hoped will bring a new flavour to opera in the UK and provide an evening of humour, excitement and extraordinary talent.

The piece, yet to be named, is being written by librettist Stephen Plaice. Stephen has created work for Glyndebourne, written smash-hit West End musicals, and is currently working on other projects including a piece for the Tete-a-tete Festival.

The composer is Mike Solomon. Mike entered OperaTwelve's competition for new composers, and was picked by a panel of opera experts. His work breaks barriers and has been performed across Europe and America. However, this will be his first full opera.

Directed by Iris Theatre's artistic director Daniel Winder, the production promises to be sensational in its vision and enjoyable in its experience, filled with comedy and novelty, no doubt leaving its audiences gagging for more new opera in London.

21-23 September 2012. St Paul's Church, Covent Garden.

Tickets will be on sale shortly.

If you feel that this is a project you may be able to assist with either financially or creatively, please contact producer, Tom Stevens at tom@iristheatre.com.
